Holiday shopping events have gone both green and glamorous in Los Angeles. At the Gifts Giving Back event in Santa Monica earlier this month, celebrities showed up to fashion store Fred Segal to shop green for the holidays — wearing sustainable fashions and bearing gifts for Toys for Tots.

Among the shoppers were Rachelle Carson-Begley (top left) of Living With Ed fame and fashion designer Jazmin Whitley (middle). Rachael Leigh Cook (right) of She’s All That hosted the event, wearing a necklace from Love Heals, a handmade jewelry company that plants trees and donates money to fight child slavery and child blindness.

Shoppers browsed green gifts spotlighted by eco-online zine CocoEco magazine, including boots made with recycled tires by Greenbees, eco high fashion outfits by Linda Loudermilk, fair trade home accessories from Be Sweet, and reclaimed leather earrings by Fahmina.

I browsed more than shopped, fueled by eco-friendly Parducci Wine and organic burgers from O! Burger. Others took a load off getting mini-makeovers from greener beauty company Tarte Cosmetics or listening to music from solar-powered DJ Ref Brown.

Best of all, Gifts Giving Back collected more than 500 toys to donate to Toys for Tots. Missed the event — or don’t live anywhere close to L.A.? Don’t forget about handmade craft shopping events happening across the country.
