During his speech President Obama discussed the Gulf Oil spill and how the government is responding to this devastating event. During last night's address as well as during recent speeches about the oil spill, President Obama has repeatedly stated that this tragedy just drives home the importance of a clean energy economy in the United States.

"The tragedy unfolding on our coast is the most painful and powerful reminder yet that the time to embrace a clean energy future is now. Now is the moment for this generation to embark on a national mission to unleash America’s innovation and seize control of our own destiny." Source: White House
