This Oregon school has more than 20 filtered water stations to refill water bottles, initiated by a student campaign called "Take Back the Tap." Tray-less dining in Victors Dining Hall reduces food waste by 25-30 percent per person with a commitment to increase local and organic food purchases by 5 percent each year. The infill of Peter Stott Athletic Field is made from more than 150,000 recycled athletic shoes. On the transportation front, there's a street of free charging stations for electric cars, as well as a bike repair shop, bike garages and a cycle track through campus. Portland State is also home to eight LEED-certified buildings with features such as rainwater capture, rooftop solar, and geothermal heating and cooling.
