University of South Florida
Undergraduates at this Tampa school are taught sustainability as part of the university’s mandatory core curriculum. The Patel College of Global Sustainability offers an MA in global sustainability with specializations in water management, sustainable tourism, renewable energy and entrepreneurship. Students pay a $1-per-credit-hour "green fee" to fund energy efficiency and renewable energy projects and to reduce the campus' carbon footprint. The Student Green Energy Fund has allocated more than $1.5 million so far for sustainable projects including a smart GPS-based free bike-share program. There are 18 student environmental groups on campus and a dedicated office of sustainability that implements and monitors campus initiatives and collaborations in the community.
