The university's Waste Education Center helped the campus recycle 515 tons of material in 2014 and includes a small-scale wastewater treatment plant for student education. Five of the campus residence halls use solar panels to heat domestic hot water including The Suites@201 Reserve (shown) which earned LEED Gold certification. A green roof on the library reduces heating and cooling costs and insulates the building, while rain gardens across campus preserve water resources. The Campus Garden, created by students, provides more than 150 pounds of fresh produce for local food pantries each year, and the dining halls purchase local foods when possible and compost food waste. Fifty-seven percent of the campus’ electricity comes from renewable sources.
