The world needs more ofDonald Trump. He’s an entertaining individual, and the world also needs more crowdfunding sites. Okay, maybe the world doesn’t need more of both, but we’re getting it! Donald Trump has thrown his commercial and financial support behind a new crowdfunding site, FundAnything. The site is supposed to spread the crowdfunding trend away from the coasts and into the breadbasket of our country.

FundAnything is the brainchild of Bill Zanker, the founder of The Learning Annex. In an interview with AllThingsD, Zanker explained, “Crowdfunding got traction with creatives and tech, but you go anywhere but the coasts and they don’t get it yet,” he said. “What I’m trying to do is bring crowdfunding away from the Brooklyn hipsters and bring it to the masses.”

Unlike Kickstarter, FundAnything can be used to fund ... anything. Catchy name, right? I am planning a summer vacation to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, a region my family just loves, and theoretically I could use FundAnything to raise money to pay for my road trip.

Another difference is that some lucky FundAnything campaigners will have their fundraising venture Tweeted by The Donald himself. I’m sure that a supportive Tweet sent to more than 2 million followers will boost contributions. Kickstarter doesn’t have this kind of star power, but is FundAnything’s relationship with Donald Trump going to give the site lasting power? Only time will tell.
