When I hear the phrase “The Darker Side of Green,” I think of an evil conspiracy that could overshadow the entire go-green movement. What I don’t think of is a sporty hybrid car. However, if the marketing efforts of the team at Lexus of Chandler pay off, I’ll immediately think of the Lexus CT 200h anytime I hear that phrase.


I know this sounds a little out of left field, so allow me to explain. I own a Lexus HS 250h, and it is time for the vehicle’s 45,000-mile service. The dealership that services the vehicle, Lexus of Chandler, provides me with a loaner vehicle every time my HS is in for service. Today, my loaner vehicle was a graphically wrapped Lexus CT 200h.


I admit, when I saw the CT sitting there in the loaner vehicle line, I got a little excited. I had never driven the CT and I loved the idea of marketing the dealership and the sporty hybrid in one eye-catching package. I think this is a great example of green marketing done the right way.


The vehicle is wrapped in a gorgeous green forest scene with several different leaves that tell the CT’s story. Badges on my loaner vehicle include:

I chuckled at the 0–30 mph time, especially since most hybrids aren’t known for their raw power. However, that is a pretty quick time for a 134-horsepower hybrid car. Yes, the car corners like it’s on rails and I did explore the EV, ECO, Normal and Sport Modes. Each badge on the vehicle gives every passerby a glimpse into what they could expect as the owner of a Lexus CT 200h.



When I woke up today I knew that I had to drop my car off for service and I expected I’d get a nice silver Lexus ES, so I was pleasantly surprised to see the brightly decorated CT 200h awaiting me. I’ve never seen a loaner vehicle marketed this way before and so I knew that I wanted to share it with you.
