With roughly 20 million members of the American workforce shuffling to their dens, spare bedrooms, kitchen tables, mom caves, or backyard office pods at least once a week to perform what would otherwise be performed in a soulless office block miles away, I thought it would be only appropriate to kick off a new series of weekly posts celebrating the growing work from home trend

Sure, working from home isn't for everyone — isolating, distracting, counter-productive, spirit-crushing, and like something out of the "Shining" are common work from home descriptors — but many work-from-homers, both full-time and part-time, are able to see through the drawbacks and wouldn't have it any other way. The most obvious benefit? The glorious, zero-carbon non-commute that involves staying in your pajamas.

Each week for this special springtime series, "Home is where the office is," I'll be rounding up the best and the brightest in eco-friendly home office furnishings, accessories, and odds and ends. Did someone say brightest? To kick things off, here's a few energy-saving desk/task lamps, mostly of the LED variety, for illuminating your home workspace.
