Although I don’t pay a lot of attention the goings-on over at the mostly wonderful world of Disney Consumer Products, it seems to me that the company has been making some interesting choices when it comes to collaborative partners lately. I’m mostly referring to Disney’s pairing with high-end Italian furniture maker Cappellini for a somewhat hideous collection of chairs introduced at last year’s Milan Furniture Fair. The limited edition seating line for Walt Disney Signature included the Fish Chair, an “inspired by nature” misstep made from recycled plastic. As I pointed out before, the Fish Chair resembles a hardened glob of Betty Crocker Rainbow Chip frosting, not something you’d find in nature.

Disney Consumer Products’ most recent eco-centric collaboration is also a surprising one albeit a much more practical, affordable, easy-on-the-eyes, and kid-friendly one. It’s with one of my favorite brands, Method, the always innovative San Francisco-based maker of natural cleaning and personal care products.

The collaboration, a line of his (Mickey Mouse) and her (Minnie Mouse) sweet-smelling foaming hand washes for kids, aim to put Disneyfied fun into otherwise mundane hand-washing routines.

As you can see, the liquid hand soap is packaged in cute bottles inspired by the silhouette of Disney’s most iconic rodent couple. It’s unclear if the pump bottles are made from easily recyclable plastic, but I’m guessing many households will opt to reuse the bottles over and over again, simply refilling it with another natural hand wash purchased in bulk (Method offers hand wash refill pouches).

Naturally, the hand washes are gentle, biodegradable and made from nontoxic ingredients. Always transparent, Method provides a complete rundown of each and every ingredient in the soaps.

The available scents are Lemonade (Mickey) and Strawberry Fizz (Minnie). As an adult, the scents don’t hold much appeal (I’m reminded of the fluoride rinses at my childhood dentist) but I’m guessing kids with an aversion to boring old Eucalyptus Mint or Lavender will dig ‘em.

Says Johanna Mooney, director of health and beauty of Disney Consumer Products, in a press release:

Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse have had an everlasting presence, remaining cool with kids and adults alike through the years. The fresh new design of the Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse soaps by Method is sure to provide an irresistible pop on the counter that will make a daily habit like hand-washing fun for the whole family.

The Mickey and Minnie Mouse hand washes sell for $4.49 each and are available at Method’s online store and at retailers like Target, and No word if Method and Disney plan to collaborate further on products like, let's say, Little Mermaid Biodegradable Bubble Bath or Daffy Duck Antibacterial Countertop Spray.

Parents: do you think natural hand wash in Mickey and Minnie Mouse bottles will be enough to get your kids jazzed up about washing up?
