The word “plastic” comes from Latin and Greek words meaning to mold and form. The makings for plastic have always existed in nature. As early as the 1500s, amber, horns and tortoise shells were shaped into a variety of everyday plastic applications.

The first synthetic plastic was introduced in 1862, and the world never looked back. Decade after decade saw major achievements in the development of plastics and their application to everything from computers to healthcare to global communications.
