Earlier this week I noticed all the snow had melted from my garden bed. I went outside to poke around and found that my chives were already starting to grow! It was my first indication that it’s time to start thinking about my garden.

If you’ve never started a garden before, a small raised bed is a great place to start if you have the room. It may be the middle of February, but now is the time to start planning your garden.

Wegmans, my favorite grocery store, put together this video to show how easy it is with a pre-made cedar raised bed (with optional canopy) and 10 bags of organic compost mixed with four bags of organic fertilizer. It’s a bit of an investment to get started, but after the first year, you’ll just need to replenish what has been lost. You won’t be starting from scratch.

Even if you don’t have a Wegmans near you, you can get the idea of how easy it is to start a garden by watching this short, yet informative, video.
