On Sept. 25, you and others from Slow Food South Jersey can help put a local organic farm to bed for the winter. Slow Food USA is sponsoring Dig In! with opportunities all across the United States. Volunteers can spend a few hours working on farms and backyard gardens, in school gardens, and in food banks. When the work is done, they’ll get a chance to share a meal together.

I’m told I’ll most likely be either weeding a strawberry patch or cultivating/removing raspberry plants. I’ll also get a tour of the farm. Then, I’ll get to participate in a potluck with the other volunteers. The wheels are turning in my head about what to bring. I’m thinking that Sourdough Panzanella with Summer Vegetables might be a good choice. What would you take to a potluck with Slow Food people?

If you have the time on Saturday and would like to volunteer at a Dig In! event in your area, you can use Slow Food’s tool to Find a Dig In Near You.

Oh, and just a reminder. Unrelated to Dig In! but also this Saturday, you can turn in your unused prescription medications at secure locations so it will be disposed of safely. I’ll be swinging by my local drop-off location before I head out to Dig In!
