Parsnip Meets a Snowman. That’s the title of the January book from The Foodies Books series. Through the eyes of seasonal fruits and vegetables, this U.K. series takes children through the growing seasons. Each month different fruits and veggies have small adventures. January’s character is a parsnip. July’s is a tomato.

The website says the books are for children under 8, but I’d say perhaps 6 and under. I know my 7-year-old wouldn’t be interested in the simple words and illustrations, but he would have been at age 4.

You can see all the videos on You Tube, and the website has additional age appropriate activities that you can do with young children that will teach them about nature and gardening.

Some of the information on the website is U.K.-specific, but a lot of the information and links can be utilized anywhere. This would be a great site to check out with your little one this weekend as many of us around the United States are indoors, trying to stay warm, dreaming about our spring gardens.

You can get to know January’s Parsnip below and then visit the rest of the characters through the You Tube link.
