Paperbark maple

The paperbark maple (Acer griseum) stands out thanks to its peeling bark. Its bark colors range from copper orange to cinnamon reddish/brown. The peels remain on the tree instead of falling to the ground, and this creates a pleasant study in color complements between the peels and the tree's inner bark. It prefers slightly acidic, medium moisture soils with plenty of drainage in hardiness zones 4 to 8.
