River birch

The Betula nigra 'Heritage' river birch has peeling salmon-white bark. The river birch is a hardy tree. It prefers moist, acidic, fertile soils but it can tolerate drier and heavy clay soils in zones 4 to 9. If grown as a single-trunk tree, the river birch can grow up to 70 feet tall.
